City of Kyle to break ground on $11.4 million Marketplace Avenue extension project

KYLE, TEXAS — The City of Kyle is hosting a groundbreaking event to kick-off construction on the extension of Marketplace Avenue, the first of eight projects in the 2022 Kyle Road Bond program to begin construction.

A ceremonial groundbreaking event will be held Tuesday, October 15 starting at 10 a.m. at the northern end of the project limits. The groundbreaking will feature remarks from Chief of Police Jeff Barnett and Kyle Mayor Travis Mitchell. Light refreshments will be available.

This project is a 0.6-mile, 4 lane collector road with a raised median and center turn lanes that will connect the northern and southern segments of Marketplace Avenue providing much needed north-south connectivity, driver and pedestrian safety, and congestion relief.

In November of 2022, City of Kyle Voters approved Proposition A, a road bond for 8 transportation projects across Kyle totaling 10.3 total miles of new location, reconstruction, and widening projects to improve the City’s transportation network. These projects will provide additional capacity to support current and future traffic, strengthen connections between the east and west sides of Kyle, and construct key segments of the Vybe trail system.

"The 2022 Kyle Road Bonds Marketplace Project will be the first of 3 major road projects breaking ground in this next year, with 7 scheduled to break ground in 2026, and 2 more in 2027. All of these projects play a critical part in transforming Kyle's transportation system," said Mayor Mitchell. "We hope the community will join us in celebrating the groundbreaking of this project that will offer enhanced safety, improved mobility, and better connectivity for Kyle drivers."

Parking during the event will be available on-site at 19121 Marketplace Avenue. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP at KyleBonds.com/rsvp
